Basic Buddhism Class meets in English Every Saturday

Posted by LaughlinJames On May - 10 - 2010ADD COMMENTS

Do you have questions?  Reading about Buddhism is very interesting, but without someone to discuss the Dharma with, the literature and parables can get confusing.  “Should I be a vegetarian?”  “Is it possible to reach enlightenment in this life?”  These questions an more come up every Saturday morning when the English Basic Buddhism Class meets.

The class is small, friendly and lead by one of the venerables or a senior member of the lay organization.  Either way you’ll be in good hands.  We’ll answer your questions the best we can.  But there are limits to our own knowledge, so if you stump us we will research the subject and have an answer for you at the next class.

We really enjoy hosting this class and probably get more out of it than you do.  So come and let us help guide you as you set out in search of the truth.

Tai Chi Lessons at Xiang Yun Temple

Tai Chi Master Jin ChiuTwenty years ago Jin Chiu started studying with Austin-based Tai Chi master Hillman Chow.  In that time, he has studied 103 forms under the master, and a few years ago Chiu started teaching Yang style Tai Chi (or Taijichuan) at Hsiang Yun Temple.

Yang-style Taijichuan is very popular in China. The reason master Chiu likes to teach this particular style is for its gentle and graceful movements. The amount and length of the session is not only good for health but also for a calm and focused mind.  It is convenient to practice, and suitable for a busy lifestyle.

Today, even with many available resources like videos and books to learn Taijichuan, master Chiu thinks that it is still better to have a good instructor to follow in the begining.

If you would like to experience the good health and calm focused mind that you gain from studying Tai Chi, we would love to welcome you to our class.  Check our class page to see the schedule of when we meet.

Enjoy learning Tai Chi and enjoy life.
